Poster Session “Talking Points”

Please type your answers to the following questions, and print and bring your work to class.

Write your answers in complete sentences. Remember to use accurate grammar in your response. If you use the same phrases or sentences from a video, be sure to use quotation marks.

To help you prepare to effectively and thoughtfully discuss your research poster with people who come to the Poster Sessions, give thoughtful answers to the following questions. You should be able to explain the following at the Poster Session without looking at notes:

  1. Why were you interested in researching this topic? (you can give personal, professional, academic, or other reasons)
  2. What are common opinions various people (stakeholders) have about the topic? For instance, what are points of agreement or disagreement? What are “patterns” in research studies on the topic?
  3. What did your survey include? For instance, how did you distribute it? Who took the survey? What kinds of questions did you ask? What were the limitations?
  4. What were the most interesting or meaningful results from the survey? What results confirmed what you expected? What results were surprising?
  5. What do the results show or suggest? What can we learn from the survey data? What are possible implications or conclusions? What solutions or actions do the results point to?
  6. Why does your research matter? Who/what might it affect in the real world?

You should bring these notes to the Poster Session in a way that you can clearly and easily read them. You should also bring notes about the following so that you can be prepared to answer questions the audience might have:

  • What were other interesting, surprising, or significant results that you did not include on the poster?
  • What additional implications, conclusions, or applications can we draw from the survey data?
  • What are possible future research studies that you, or another researcher, could do to continue exploring the topic?
  • Anything else interesting you want to remember!
